Luke Wright and George Garton have both been named in The Cricketer’s T20 Blast Team of the Season, while Garton and Phil Salt have also made Wisden’s under-24 T20 Blast Team of the Season.
Wright ended his 17th Bast campaign for the side as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer, with 411 runs at an average of 37.36 with two fifties.
The Sharks skipper also had the third-highest strike rate in the squad with 137 runs per 100 balls, and saw his highest total come in El Clasicoast vs. Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl. The batsman’s 83 came off just 59 balls and powered his side to a 13-run victory.
Wright’s other half-century came in the reverse fixture against the same opposition, with a thrilling 82 coming off just 55 balls. In both innings, the 35-year-old remained not out and we’re sure Hampshire will be glad to see the back of him for another season!
Like Wright, Garton enjoyed a terrific Blast campaign for the Sharks this summer with both bat and ball, and joins his captain in The Cricketer’s best XI as well as earning a spot in Wisden’s under-24 team.
The fast-bowler was his side’s leading wicket-taker in the Blast with 14 dismissals for 16.50 apiece, and he recorded two four-wicket hauls in the competition.
His first came in a vital win against Middlesex at The 1st Central County Ground, where he took 4-27, and his second came two days later when he finished with figures of 4-21 against Essex Eagles.
In both of those games, Garton also showed his talent with the bat. With the match slipping away from the Sharks against Middlesex, the 23-year-old smashed 24 off just nine balls to secure victory, before he steered the Sharks to an important win in Chelmsford with an unbeaten 34.
Garton is joined in Wisden’s XI by Phil Salt, was played in his fifth Blast campaign for the Sharks.
Despite missing three matches whilst away on England duty, the 24-year-old still managed to score 221 runs with a high-score of 56 against Middlesex and an impressive strike rate of 167.46.
Salt is one of only four players on the planet have scored over 1,000 T20 runs since the start of 2018 with a strike rate of above 160.
