George Thomas to join Worcestershire

Sussex Cricket can confirm that George Thomas will be leaving Sussex to join Worcestershire at the end of the season.

Joining from Somerset in 2025, Thomas featured in all but one Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture this season, scoring 156 runs in the competition. He also played in five Vitality Blast matches this year, top scoring at the Oval with a quickfire 57.

Since his arrival, the 22-year-old top-order batter has featured 16 times for the Sharks - nine times in the Vitality Blast, and seven in the One Day Cup.

On Thomas' departure from the Club, Paul Farbrace, Men's Head Coach at Sussex Cricket, said: "It is always disappointing to lose any player, and George is a player I would have loved to have kept at Hove."

"I explained a couple of months ago that because of our financials issues we would not be able to offer him a new contract. He played really well in the Vitality Blast and shaped up nicely in the One Day Cup, too. 

By the time we got to the position to offer him a new contract he had other offers. I don’t blame him for looking to continue his career and I really am delighted for him to be able to continue to develop his career.

He is a fantastic young man with a great work ethic and we all wish him in the next stage of his career."
