Will Sheffield leaves Sussex following end of contract

Will Sheffield has left Sussex following the conclusion of his contract, but will continue to be supported by the club’s coaching and medical staff.

The 20-year-old, who became the first graduate of the Aldridge Cricket Academy to join Sussex’s men’s playing staff, was also the first contracted Sussex player to benefit from the support of the Matthew Hobden Trust. 

Sheffield progressed through the club’s pathway to make his first-class debut against Middlesex in August this year, and impressed at Radlett before dismissing Max Holden to claim his maiden wicket. 

While the left-arm seamer’s contract with Sussex has not been renewed, the club will still offer Sheffield the use of our training and rehabilitation facilities, and fast-bowling coach, James Kirtley will continue to oversee his development.  

Performance Director, Keith Greenfield said: “It’s been a difficult two years for Will with serious injuries.  

“We will continue to support him with our coaching and medical support staff to enable him to come back stronger.

“Everyone at Sussex Cricket would like to wish Will all the very best for the future.”
