Travis Head, Sussex’s overseas player for the 2020 season, has been named in a 14-man squad for Australia’s two-match Test series against Pakistan that begins next week.
The middle-order batsman who can also bowl off-spin is likely to regain his place in the Australian starting eleven that he lost after the fourth Test of this summer’s Ashes.
Discussing the 25-year-old’s selection, Australia’s national selector Trevor Hohn said: "Travis scored a hundred against a very good New South Wales attack just a few weeks ago and also offers the option of part-time off-spin.
"We anticipate Matthew [Wade] and Travis will give us a strong middle order in support of the top four.”
The first Test of the series at Brisbane starts on Thursday 21st November and is followed by a day-night match at Adelaide beginning on Friday 29th November.
Head’s involvement in the Australian Test set-up won’t affect his season-long spell at The 1st Central County Ground next summer as the team’s only commitments between April and the end of September are three IT20s and three ODIs against England in July.
