Sussex’s Liam O’Brien and Fred Bridges helped steer England into the final of the Physical Disability World Championship on Tuesday.
O’Brien scored an unbeaten 53 off 34 to see England to 147 for 7 in their 20 overs at Blackfinch New Road.
Afghanistan were then on course for a successful chase before Bridges helped turned the game. The left-arm spinner conceded just 12 runs from his four overs and picked up two wickets as the innings collapsed from 94 for 4 to 106 for 8.
A 22-run ninth-wicket partnership took Afghanistan within 11 of their victory, but they ran out of overs and finished on 137 for 8. There were also two wickets for O'Brien, who finished with 2 for 40.
England will take on India in the final this afternoon. A live scorecard is available here.
