Jofra Archer will play County Championship cricket for Sussex in May, the ECB has announced.
In an injury update on Saturday morning, the Board said: “Following a repeat MRI scan undertaken on Wednesday, Jofra was reviewed by the ECB medical team and is progressing as expected from the stress fracture to his right elbow sustained during England’s South Africa tour in January. He will have a further scan in mid-April before a return to competitive cricket.
“Archer’s focus will be playing for England, starting with the West Indies Test series, which commences in early June. He will play County Championship cricket in May for Sussex to ensure his preparation is optimal for Test cricket.”
Sussex have four County Championship matches in May, two at The 1st Central County Ground against Leicestershire (Friday 1st to Monday 4th May) and Glamorgan over the early May bank holiday weekend (Friday 8th May to Monday 11th May.)
Jason Gillespie’s side then travel to Trent Bridge to take on Nottinghamshire (Friday 15th to Monday 18th May) and to The Pattonair County Ground to play Derbyshire (Friday 22nd to Monday 25th May).
Before then, Jofra’s “current rehabilitation will progress to a full gym programme and continued running work over the next two weeks.
His back-to-bowling programme will commence towards the end of March working closely with ECB Young Lions coach and seam bowling specialist Jon Lewis and Sussex seam bowling coach James Kirtley.”
