Sussex’s Danni Wyatt made a solid start to England Women’s tour of New Zealand with 35 runs from 42 balls, a catch and a run out during a 20-run win in a warm-up match against a New Zealand XI.
The opener was one of seven batters to make it past 20 as England Women scored 299 for 9 from their 50 overs.
Danni’s county teammate Freya Davies chipped in with the wicket of Katey Martin during the New Zealand XI innings, and finished with 1 for 40 from seven overs.
Wyatt executed the run out of the home side’s top scorer, Lauren Down, who fell three runs short of a century, and took a catch off the bowling of Lancashire’s Kate Cross as the New Zealand XI were limited to 279 for 6 in their reply.

England play a second warm-up against the same opposition on Tuesday, before the first of three ODIs on Tuesday 23rd February. A subsequent three-match IT20 series begins on Wednesday 3rd March.
Danni and Freya’s Sussex teammate, Georgia Elwiss, is also in the England squad for the tour.
