Sussex’s Freya Davies put in an economical performance with the ball as England were defeated by seven wickets in their third and final ODI against New Zealand at Dunedin on Sunday.
After England had been bowled out for 220 in 47.5 overs – Sussex’s Danni Wyatt falling for a duck – Freya took 1 for 33 in eight overs as the hosts reached their target with 20 balls remaining.
England had high hopes of a series clean sweep after reducing New Zealand to 51 for 3 in the 17th over, but an unbeaten Amy Satterthwaite century and 72 not out for Amelia Kerr saw the White Ferns home. Handed the new ball, Freya picked up the wicket of Natalie Dodd in her third over.
Freya was rested from Thursday’s second match, which England won by seven wickets and with more than 12 overs to spare. Danni was bowled for a duck, but half-centuries for Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver ensured England took an unassailable lead in the series.
The first of three T20Is between the two sides takes place in Wellington on Wednesday.
