A number of former Sussex players will return to their old stomping ground this Thursday afternoon when The 1st Central County Ground hosts the inaugural fixture between a Rob Andrew Sussex XI and a Lord’s Taverners XI.
The 30-over match has been organised to celebrate the cooperation between the Taverners and the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF) in delivering a variety of community cricket projects around the county.
Funding from the Lord’s Taverners allows the SCF to deliver Table Cricket competitions, the Wicketz street cricket hubs and the Super 1s disability cricket hubs in Sussex.
The Lord’s Taverners XI for Thursday’s match includes two former Sussex batsmen in Richard Montgomerie and Chris Adams, who will captain the side.
Former Chief Executive, Gus Mackay is also in the team, which includes a mix of retired cricketers and names from the world of entertainment. England Test opener, Chris Tavare will perform umpiring duties.
Rob Andrew will captain his Sussex XI, which features former Sussex batsman and current Director of Cricket, Keith Greenfield, members of staff from the Sussex Cricket Foundation, players from the Sussex Cricket League, members of the Sussex over-50s squad and Sussex 2nd XI players.
Play gets underway at 2pm and entry is free of charge. Food and drink will be available to purchase in The Spen Cama Pavilion, which will be open to all.
