During his day job, Ben Brown’s challenges include scoring as many runs as possible, maintaining his high standards behind the stumps and devising the tactics to give his team the best chance of winning.
Next week, however, the Sussex captain faces three altogether different obstacles. Obstacles measuring 1,345, 978 and 1,085 metres to be precise.
Ben – alongside former Sussex players Steve Magoffin, Ollie Rayner and Tom Smith - is undertaking the Three Peaks Challenge, which sees participants ascend and descend the three highest mountains in the UK – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - inside three days.
It’s all in aid of the Professional Cricketers’ Trust; the charity that provides PCA members and their immediate families support when they need it most.
The Trust played an important role in supporting Ben’s good friend, Smith, before and after the tragic death of his wife Laura last year.
With a week to go until the start of his expedition, Ben is all set: “‘I’m looking forward to the challenge and most importantly raising money for an amazing charity who has done so much for lots of Cricketers past and present.
“To do something positive after the tragic loss of Laura is a good thing and I’m happy to help the Cricketers Trust as best I can after everything they’ve done for Tom, Laura and the girls.”
