Danni Wyatt top scores for England in comfortable win

3 Mar 2021

Sussex’s Danni Wyatt was England’s top-scorer as they comprehensively beat New Zealand in the first T20I of their three-match series on Wednesday.

Danni scored 33 off 26 balls as England surpassed New Zealand’s meagre total of 96 all out with seven wickets and four overs to spare at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

The opener put on 59 for the first-wicket with the in-form Tammy Beaumont (25), before being caught in the ninth over. Beaumont and England captain Heather Knight both fell in the eleventh over, but Nat Sciver (26*) and Amy Jones (12*) saw the team home.

Freaya Davies bowls

Earlier, Danni’s Sussex teammate Freya Davies bowled a single over for just three runs during New Zealand’s innings. The seamer also took a fine, diving catch at mid-on to dismiss Amy Satterthwaite for just two. There were two wickets each for Katherine Brunt, Sciver, Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn.

The remaining two matches in the series take place at the same venue on Friday and Sunday.
