Linsey Smith and Danni Wyatt suffered more weather-related frustration in the Caribbean as England’s opening match of the ICC Women’s World T20 against Sri Lanka in Saint Lucia washed-out completely on Saturday.
The pair did manage a run-out earlier in the week, however, with England taking on India in their final warm-up match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Linsey was handed the new-ball and finished with very respectable figures of 0-22 from her three overs as India reached 144-6 batting first. Opening the batting, Danni hit 54 from 53 balls to get England’s reply off to a good start, but after she was caught and bowled in the 17th over England fell 12 runs short of victory.
The Sydney Quin T20 Series for development squads took place last week, with Phil Salt playing for Lahore Qalandars Development Squad. After their opening win against Sydney Thunder Academy last Monday, the Qalandars played twice on Tuesday. They lost their first match of the day against Auckland Aces by four wickets, with Phil scoring 12 from six balls at the top of the order as the Qalandars were bowled out for 111.

Later in the day, Lahore took on Sydney Sixers Academy, again batting first. They were bowled out for 116, with Phil dismissed for nought. The Qalandars rallied, however, to reduce the Sixers to 38-7, eventually securing a nine-run win.
On Wednesday, the Qalanadars were due to play Hobart Hurricanes Academy, but rain scuppered the match with Hobart having reached 36-1 having won the toss and elected to bat.
A wet outfield led to Lahore’s next match – a play-off with Sydney Thunder Academy to decide which side would meet Auckland in the tournament final – being moved from Thursday to Friday. The Thunder won the toss and elected to bat first, making 136-5 from their 20 overs. It wasn’t to be for the Qalandars, as they were dismissed for 77, Phil making six from number five. The Thunder would go on to lift the Mike Hussey Trophy.

Luke Wells’ efforts with the ball and in the field helped his Casey-South Melbourne side to a comprehensive victory over Camberwell Magpies on the second day of their two-day Victorian Premier Cricket encounter. Luke took a catch to remove one of the Magpies’ openers before taking a chance off his own bowling to reduce them to 141-7 as they attempted to chase 330. Luke finished with one for 33 from 15 overs as Camberwell were dismissed for 213 handing Casey a six-point first-innings victory. The win takes Luke’s team up to ninth in the Kookaburra Men’s Premier Firsts table.
