In this week’s Winter Watch, read about Jofra Archer and George Garton in the inaugural South Africa T20 League, as well as updates on Tymal Mills and Ravi Bopara as they get underway in the International League T20 in the UAE.
Jof is back with a bang
The inaugural South Africa T20 League (SA20) got underway this week, and it was a huge milestone for Jofra Archer, who hadn’t played for 17 months. And what a return it was.
Playing for the Mumbai Indians Cape Town, Jof took 3-27 from his 4 overs, a spell which included 12 dot balls.
It was a breath-taking return that no doubt brought a huge smile to the faces of Sussex and England fans.
Great to see Garton on the pitch
Last year was probably one of the hardest in George Garton’s career, having been selected for the England ODI squad in 2021, Garton was then hampered by what he thought was long-covid, forcing him to miss the majority of the 2022 season.
However, following a new diagnosis, Garton is now well on his way to full fitness and is back playing on the world stage once again.
After playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League in November, George is now playing for Joburg Super Kings in the SA20.
Garton’s Joburg Super Kings kicked off their campaign with a 16 run win over Durban’s Super Giants on Wednesday, followed by a loss Paarl Royals this morning, in which Garton took 1-15.
Archer and Garton faceoff tomorrow
Jofra and George will come up against each other tomorrow as MI Cape Town take on the Joburg Super Kings at 3:30pm, live on Sky Sports.
