Rawlins the Pick of the Sussex Attack on Day 2

Delray Rawlins took three wickets on day 2 of the pre-season friendly against Durham UCCE to put Sussex into a commanding position going into the third and final day tomorrow.

The morning session of day 2 showed early signs that Sussex may bowl out the visitors with little resistance as Steve Finn and Fynn Hudson-Prentice picked up where they left off yesterday evening, both taking early wickets. Durham dug in though as batsmen Nikhil Gorantla and Simon Fernandes stood strong at the crease, with their partnership of 58 managing to take the side to 103 without further loss at lunch.

After the break Jamie Atkins and Delray Rawlins were brought into the attack, and it was Atkins who made the breakthrough dismissing a determined Gorantla on 43 runs, before Rawlins trapped Fernandes lbw on 32.

Henry Crocombe once again showed signs that he can be a valuable asset this season, as the young right-arm seamer took two more wickets from his nine overs. But it was Rawlins who was the pick of the Sussex bowlers, wrapping up the Durham innings straight after tea and finishing with three wickets at an economy of 1.42 from his 19 overs.

Sussex were brilliant in the slips catching five behind as Durham were eventually all out for 192.

With just over an hour and a half before the close of play Sussex took the chance to extend their lead to 196, as 2nd innings openers Ali Orr and Dan Ibrahim put on a first wicket partnership of 31 before rain eventually brought day 2 to an early end.

Spectators are welcome to attend the third and final day of the pre-season friendly, entry is free of charge with the Eaton Road gates opening at 09:30am on each day.
