Yorkshire Vikings
Yorkshire began their campaign in the North Group with five wins from their first six completed games. The second half of their qualification bid was tougher, with four defeats among their final six matches as well as a cancellation after COVID-19 meant Derbyshire were unable to field a side. Nonetheless, the Vikings’ fast start ensured a second place finish in the group and a ‘home’ quarter final.
Twenty-two-year old Harry Brook had a fantastic time with the bat during the group stage, scoring 485 runs in 12 innings at a strike-rate of 150.15. That makes him the leading English run-scorer in the Blast and competition’s third leading run-scorer overall, behind Gloucestershire’s Glenn Phillips and Leicestershire’s Josh Inglis. Jonny Bairstow was devastating in the four matches he played, scoring 295 runs at nearly 180, but he will be away with England during the quarter-final, alongside Joe Root and David Malan after the later was added to the England squad for the third test. Adam Lyth was the other Viking to top 200 runs in the group stage.
Yorkshire have been dealt a blow with the news that Kiwi overseas Lockie Ferguson, who was the teams top wicket-taker with 14, will be unavailable for selection after he tested positive for COVID-19. Dom Bess, Matt Fisher and Jordan Thomson are expected to feature and have each taken 11 wickets, with Bess’s economy rate of 6.70 runs per over the best among Yorkshire’s bowlers. David Willey took seven wickets in his four appearances, but was expensive at 9 runs per over.
Squad: Gary Ballance, Dominic Bess, Harry Brook, Harry Duke, Matthew Fisher, Will Fraine, George Hill, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Adam Lyth, Adil Rashid, Jordan Thompson, Matthew Waite, David Willey.
