Tom Haines started pre-season with an impressive knock of 129 before retiring not out midway through the final session of the first day.
Haines showed great early form and seemed to pick straight back up from where he left off last season, bringing up his first 50 off just 47 balls. His 129 came from 169 balls, which included 21 fours. Ali Orr provided early support in the innings, with the pair posting a first wicket partnership of 66.
Dan Ibrahim added to Sussex’s total with an unbeaten half century, finishing on 59 off 122 balls, a knock that included eight fours and one six. At close of play Sussex finished on 280 losing 7 wickets.
After batting all day, the Sussex bowling attack will be looking forward to getting some much-needed overs under their belts before the season gets underway in two weeks’ time. Ian Salisbury and Surrey Head Coach Gareth Batty have agreed to use the warm-up game to get as much batting and bowling practice for both sides as possible, across the three days.
Play is due to start at 11:00am on days 2 and 3. Spectators are welcome to attend, entry is free of charge with the Eaton Road gates opening at 09:30am on each day.
Supporters will be situated in the Spen Cama pavilion. Various food and beverage options will be available to purchase within this location.
A reminder to all attendees that The 1st Central County Ground is now a cashless venue, therefore please ensure you prepare accordingly.
This match will not be live streamed as we continue to test the improved infrastructure ahead of the start of the County Championship season.
