During the month of August, Sussex Cricket and its charitable arm, the Sussex Cricket Foundation, will be celebrating Women’s Big Cricket Month.
With England Women playing Sri Lanka at The 1st Central County Ground on Thursday 31st August in the IT20 series, the Women’s Hundred getting underway and Sussex Women playing in the London Championship and the South Central Cup, we want to showcase stories in the women’s and girls’ game to encourage more women and girls to play, volunteer, officiate, watch and attend cricket.
Throughout August we will be running a number of programmes designed to inspire even more women and girls to take up the game we all love, including: a girls only holiday camp at Ifield CC in Crawley, the Dynamos girls tournament, held at the 1st Central County Ground in September, as well the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival.
The U11’s and U13’s Club league finals will also be taken place, a competition that leads to the Southern Counties Regional Finals Day. August also sees the conclusion of the U15’s league and crowning of the champions for the season.
A number of Club’s will also be holding Women’s Soft Ball Club Festival days, giving people the opportunity to play cricket in a relaxed environment.
The Aldridge@BACA Sussex Women’s Cricket League and Women’s Soft Ball League will continue to take place throughout the month, along with the Women’s Sussex Slam finals, which take place on Sunday 27th August.
Keep an eye out on the Sussex Cricket and Sussex Women’s social channels to see interviews from your favourite Sussex Women’s cricketers as they review the 2023 season. Make sure you also look out for competitions to be in with a chance of winning signed kit from the likes of Danni Wyatt, Freya Kemp and Georgia Adams.
You’ll also see content from the Sussex Cricket Foundation highlighting the important work that has been carried out in 2023 to promote women’s and girls’ cricket in the county.
Speaking on the Sussex Women’s Big Cricket Month, Sussex Women & Girls Development Officer Charlotte Burton said: “With The 1st Central County Ground hosting the England Women against Sri Lanka on the last day of the month of August, we want to use Sussex Women’s Big Cricket Month to not only help get a sell out crowd at Hove, but also promote what we do in Sussex for women’s and girls’ cricket.
“It is an amazing opportunity to encourage more people into the game, whether that be playing, officiating, volunteering or just coming down to Hove or BACA to watch England and the Sussex Women in action.
“As ever, it’s an exciting time to be involved in women’s and girl’s cricket and with a record-breaking Ashes series recently, as well as England playing at Hove in August, we hope to inspire more women and girls to get involved in cricket.”
