This week’s Winter Watch is something of an England special. With a number of Sussex players representing England in different formats and different levels, we round up all the action and look at some fantastic performances from our players in an England shirt.
Haines and Carson shine in Sri Lanka
It’s been a special week for Jack Carson and Tom Haines, who both made their Test debuts for the England Lions, against Sri Lanka A.
Sussex Skipper Haines made his maiden Lions Test century, making 118 from just 138 balls, and that brilliant knock was followed by 4 wickets from Sussex spinner, Jack Carson.
At the time of writing, it is tea on the final day, with England needing 191 runs to win in the final session. You can keep up to date with the scorecard here.
The Lions play one more Test against Sri Lanka A, starting on February 7th.
Five for Foreman in Australia
As well as having Haines and Carson away with the England Lions, Sussex currently have four players representing the England U19s for a tour of Australia.
Archie Lenham, Bertie Foreman, Dan Ibrahim and Charlie Tear are all currently away with the U19s and are also set to be joined by Sussex spinning allrounder, James Coles.
England U19s kicked off the tour with a four-day game against Australia U19s and it was Bertie Foreman who put in the performance of the match.
Foreman took 5 wickets across the two innings and also made an unbeaten 58 to help England to a 24 wicket victory.
Freya Davies and Danni Wyatt prepare for Women’s T20 World Cup
The England Women’s team continued their preparation ahead of the highly anticipated Women’s T20 World Cup, which gets underway in a week.
Both Sussex’s Danni Wyatt and Freya Davies were in the team that beat New Zealand Women by 38 runs in their second warm-up game.
England Women begin their campaign against the West Indies on Saturday 11th February.
Go well, Freya and Danni!
Jofra back in an England shirt
The spectacular comeback from Jofra Archer continues! After being selected for the England Men’s ODI squad against South Africa, Jofra repaid the faith with a career best performance in the third ODI.
He finished with figures of 6-40 and bowled with outstanding pace and accuracy to tear through the South African batters.
The ECB then announced that Jofra has been selected for both the England ODI and T20 squad’s for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.
