It’s been another busy couple of weeks for Sussex players around the world in franchise cricket. We take a look at Sussex’s new overseas signing, Steve Smith, as he made his second T20 century for the Sydney Sixers. We’ll also reflect on wins for both Tymal Mills and Ravi Bopara in their opening ILT20 games, as well as some footage of some outstanding fielding from Jofra Archer in the SA20.
Smith’s century the first for Sydney Sixers in BBL
Yesterday we broke the news that the current number two ICC Men’s Test Batter, Steve Smith, will play three games for Sussex in the County Championship in May this summer and just two days prior to that Smith was in the records book once again.
Smith’s 101 off 56 balls was the first ever century in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers, and his second ever in T20 cricket.
Batting at two, Smith opened with former Shark, Josh Philippe and the ton helped the Sixers to a 59-run victory over the Adelaide Strikers.
Tymal and Ravi off the mark in ILT20
Both Tymal Mills and Ravi Bopara started their ILT20 campaigns with wins last week.
Tymal picked up 1-11 from his 3 overs to help the Desert Vipers to a 7-wicket victory over the Sharjah Warriors, coached by Sussex’s own Paul Farbrace.
Tymal is back in action for the Vipers today at 2pm, live on BT Sport.
Ravi’s Dubai Capitals saw off the Abu Dhabi Knight Raiders by 73 runs, with Ravi making 12 not-out, hitting 1 four and 1 maximum in the four deliveries he faced.
You can keep up to day with Ravi and Tymal's fixtures and results here.
Next week
In the next edition of Winter Watch we will roundup the action from the Sharks down under, including updates on Harrison Ward, Oli Carter, Ali Orr, Sean Hunt and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.
Before you go...check this out from Jof!
