It’s been a busy week for the Sussex players currently playing around the world. We reflect on Danni Wyatt being awarded her 100th England cap, Ollie Robinson’s player of the match performance in Pakistan, the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi T10 league and a half-century for Cheteshwar Pujara.
Danni Wyatt receives 100th England cap
Sussex and England batter Danni Wyatt etched her name into the history books this week, as she was awarded her 100th England cap.
The England Women’s team are currently playing a three-match ODI series in the Caribbean, with Wyatt joined by fellow Sussex players Freya Davies and Freya Kemp in the squad.
Danni received her cap prior to England’s first ODI against the West Indies and she celebrated in style.
Wyatt made 68 from 60 balls as England won the first ODI by 142 runs on Sunday. England followed up that win with another yesterday to ensure the three-match series is already won going into the third ODI tomorrow.
Robinson inspires England win
It has been dubbed by many as the greatest England Test match win of all time. England pulled off an incredible 74-run win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi this week, and it was Sussex’s own, Ollie Robinson, who picked up the Player of the Match award.
Robinson took 3 weeks in the final session on the final day to drag England over the line in a nail-biting finish. With the sun dropping and time running out, England took their last wicket with just minutes remaining.
Ollie Robinson picked up 5 wickets across the two Pakistani innings, as he and Jimmy Anderson put on a seam-bowling masterclass on a pitch that offered little help to the bowlers across the five days.
Bertie Foreman, Dan Ibrahim and Charlie Tear join up with Young Lions
This week Bertie Foreman, Dan Ibrahim and Charlie Tear all joined up with the England Young Lions on a tour of the UAE, led by former Academy Director and Sussex legend, Mike Yardy.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Sussex players joining up with various England squads. Tom Haines and Jack Carson were out with the England Lions, while Ollie Rob and Jof remain with the senior team in Pakistan.
Garton’s SAMP finish 3rd in Abu Dhabi T10 League
The Abu Dhabi T10 League concluded this week, and George Garton’s SAMP Army came up against Team Abu Dhabi in the 3rd place play off.
Both Grant Flower and new Sussex Head Coach Paul Farbrace were on the coaching staff for Team Abu Dhabi, but it was Garton’s SAMP Army who won the game to take 3rd place.
Half-century for Puj
Cheteshwar Pujara continued his fine form into the winter, making a half-century for India A in a tour game against Bangladesh A. His 52 runs came from 124 deliveries.
