An unchanged, unbeaten Sussex Sharks squad will hunt their fifth win of this year’s Vitality Blast when they take on Glamorgan at The 1st Central County Ground on Tuesday evening.
Sunday’s three-wicket win against Gloucestershire on Sunday was the Sharks eleventh away fixture in T20 cricket without a defeat; a run that stretches back to the start of last year’s tournament.
In this year’s edition, they now have four wins, a tie and a no-result from their six games. That has put them in second place in the south group with eight points.
A significant feature of the team’s successful start has been contributions from a wide range of players.
Five batsmen have over 100 runs in the tournament, with six making at least one score of 30 or more. Of those six, Phil Salt is leading the way in terms of runs scored, with 176 runs from his five innings, while Delray Rawlins has the highest strike rate – 165.51.
Seven bowlers have taken at least two wickets in an innings so far in this year’s Blast. Reece Topley has eight, closely followed by Tymal Mills and Rashid Khan with six each. Mills is the Sharks most miserly bowler, conceding an average of just 5.86 runs per over.
Danny Briggs’ 1 for 28 on Sunday saw him become the leading wicket-taker in the history of English domestic T20.
Speaking on Monday morning, Sharks head coach Jason Gillespie said: “I was pleased we were able to find a way to win against Gloucestershire. We adjusted well to conditions again which has been an encouraging facet of our play in the tournament.
“Glamorgan are a dangerous side and we are looking forward to challenging ourselves them again.
“It’ll be great to be back out in front of our fans who we feel have shown themselves to be the best supporters in the country.”

Opposition
Despite flying high in the Championship, Glamorgan are winless in this year’s Vitality Blast having lost four and tied one of their six matches, with one game abandoned.
David Lloyd is the team’s highest run-scorer with 170 from his six innings. Two other players – Chris Cooke and Colin Ingram – have passed one hundred runs in this tournament. Scoring quickly has been Glamorgan’s main problem, with only two players – Cooke and Ingram again – recording a strike-rate of over 120.
Off-spinner Andrew Salter has taken the most wickets with 10 dismissals from 16 overs. Marchant de Lange has eight. Of the regular bowlers, Graham Wagg has been the most economical, conceding 7.05 runs per over on average.
