Sussex Women begin defence of T20 crown

Sussex Women began their defence of their T20 trophy with back to back games against Hampshire Pathways, with both sides winning one game each.

Playing at the Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre, Sussex lost the opening game by 35 runs. Captain Georgia Adams won the toss and elected to bowl, with Hampshire making 115 from their 20 overs.

Daisy Gibb and Nancy Harman were the pick of the Sussex bowlers, both taking 2 wickets respectively. 

In the next match, Georgia Adams won the toss again, this time electing to bat first and it was a decision that paid dividends. 

Adams top scored with 25 as Sussex set Hampshire a target of 92 runs to win, but the Sussex bowling attack defended the total brilliantly, bowling Hampshire out for 74 runs in 19.1 overs.

Daisy Gibb was among the wickets once again, taking 2-6 from her 3 overs, with Mary Taylor also taking 2 wickets. 

Sussex captain, Georgia Adams said:  “The first game of the season is always a special feeling for the players so it was fantastic to get out on the pitch for the first time this season in the Sussex shirt.

"Credit to the groundsman, Tom, for getting us out there for two very competitive games against a strong Hampshire side.

"To win one a piece and have the group back together was brilliant. A good day of cricket all round with contributions from everyone and great to have a debut for Nicole Faltum and an unofficial debut for Mollie Adams.”

Prior to the game beginning, Adams presented Nicole Fultam with her Sussex cap to mark her Sussex debut.
