The final day of Sussex’s pre-season friendly against Exeter University ended in a draw and a maiden century for Exeter opener Geffen.
Sussex lost their first wicket of the day when Fynn Hudson-Prentice fell to a stunning catch from Connell once again to give Turner his first wicket of the morning.
He then dismissed Jack Carson with the next ball but was unable to complete the hat-trick with Sean Hunt the man to thwart his efforts.
Oli Carter went on to grab his half century shortly after before being caught and bowled by Charlesworth for 60.
Henry Crocombe and Sean Hunt put on a short 12-run partnership before Crocombe was caught by Buckingham on the boundary off the bowling of Bharadwaj for 5. Sean Hunt finished on 9* and Sussex 209.
Openers Church and Geffen opened and put on a 76-run partnership before Church was bowled by Tom Haines who took his 4th wicket of the match.
Connell was Geffen’s next partner, but he was dismissed quickly by Jack Carson for 9 via LBW.
Baird was next in and he and Geffen added a 77-run partnership with Geffen reaching his century.
Baird was then caught and bowled by Henry Crocombe just before Tea.
Carson grabbed his second wicket dismissing Buckingham for 11 not long into the evening session.
Geffen was eventually dismissed, caught by Ibrahim from a Carson ball which ended a superb 126 knock late into the day.
Exeter’s Turner ending the day with the bowling figures of 5-68 and Geffen’s impressive 126 knock from 174 balls rounded up a good day of cricket for the University side, while Oli Carter top scored for Sussex with 60.
Jack Carson ended up with 3-65 figures for Sussex, in what was Sussex’s only competitive friendly ahead of the County Championship, after the two previous fixtures were lost due to rain.
