Sussex Cricket Foundation welcomes former England manager Sam Allardyce to Sussex

The Sussex Cricket Foundation welcomed former England, West Ham and Bolton football manager, Sam Allardyce to the Brighton Metropole on Friday 31st March for its annual charity fundraiser, ‘Where Cricket Meets…’ sponsored by Sutton Winson.

Over 300 guests enjoyed a three-course lunch before listening to stories from Allardyce’s playing and managerial career.

The audience also took part in a variety of games, as well as a live & silent auction, with the total money raised standing at over £20,000.

The vital funds that were raised will go towards supporting Foundation projects and initiatives to help continue to grow the game, provide opportunities and make the game of cricket as accessible for all as possible.

Gary Wallis-Tayler, Community Cricket Director, said: “I would like to thank everyone for coming to support the Foundation and to Sam for being our guest speaker.

“I would also like to thank Sutton Winson for sponsoring our event and for all their support.

It was great to hear stories from his illustrious career, which helped raise funds for the Foundation.

The funds raised will help continue our work across the County to raise the profile of cricket and get more people of all ages, abilities, genders and backgrounds accessing the game.”

As well as telling stories about his time as an elite football manager, Sam Allardyce took questions from members of the audience.

Speaking on the fundraiser, Allardyce said: “It was great to support the Sussex Cricket Foundation and to hear about all the work they do to help grow the game of cricket across Sussex and to make it as accessible as possible for all.

“I was delighted to help contribute to raising funds and I wish the Foundation all the best in the future”.
