After 18 years at Hove, first as a player and later as part of the commercial team, Tony Cottey left Sussex Cricket at the end of April.
The Welshman joined the club ahead of the 1999 season after 12 successful years at Glamorgan, including being part of the teams that won the 1993 Sunday League and 1998 Championship titles.
During his six seasons at Sussex, he scored over 5,000 runs across first-class and one-day cricket and was part of Sussex’s first Championship winning side in 2003.
After retiring as a player in 2005, ‘Cotts’ worked in various roles away from county cricket before returning to his adopted home in 2009 to look after the club’s sponsors and partners.
In 12 years as part of the office staff, his relationship-focused approach helped deliver sustained growth across the sponsorship and hospitality portfolio.
On and off the pitch, Cotts was a hugely popular figure at Sussex and he will be missed tremendously by all involved at the club.
Tony has started an ice-cream café in Shoreham-by-Sea with his partner. Cotts and Linz is situated on Ferry Road and supporters of the club are welcome to visit to catch up with Tony. Sussex members will even be offered 10% off from the café on presentation of their 2021 membership card!
