A most dramatic week for Sussex Sharks in the Royal London One-Day Cup concludes on Sunday with their match against Gloucestershire at The Saffrons in Eastbourne.
Phil Salt has been drafted into England’s IT20 squad and so is unavailable for this match. Delray Rawlins and Luke Wells are added to the match day squad.
After the incredible win over Essex on Tuesday was nearly repeated against Hampshire two days later, Jason Gillespie’s make their annual trip to the far east in third place in the south group and well in the hunt for a knock-out berth with two group games to go.
Luke Wright’s club record for the highest individual score in one-day cricket lasted all of five days as David Wiese smashed 171 to take Sussex agonisingly close to a second miraculous victory in as many games against Hampshire.
Unsurprisingly, its those two men that lead the Sharks’ run-scoring list, with 291 and 283 runs respectively. Wiese’s average of 94.33 is the best in the south group, and second in the competition overall (minimum three innings).
In Mir Hamza, Sussex also have a player near the top of the tournament leading wicket-takers list. The Pakistani is in joint fourth position with 15 wickets from his six outings.
Sussex Sharks Squad

Opposition
Gloucestershire are fifth in the south group with six points, needing to win both their remaining games and then hope that other results go their way if they are to qualify for the knock-out stages. Richard Dawson’s men have recorded wins against Surrey, Kent and Somerset, but have struggled for consistency; they are yet to win two matches in a row.
Their most recent result was a heavy home defeat to Glamorgan. Opening batsman, Gareth Roderick got a duck in that game but nonetheless is the Bristolian’s top-scorer in this year’s competition with 244 runs. Those include an unbeaten century during Gloucestershire’s seven-wicket win over strugglers Kent. Two other batsmen, James Bracey (219) and Chris Dent (210) have over 200 runs.
Benny Howell and former Shark Chris Liddle, lead Gloucestershire’s wicket-takers with nine scalps each.
Squad: Dent (c), Roderick, Hammond, Howell, Bracey, van Buuren, J.Taylor, Higgins, Smith, Payne, Liddle, G.Hankins, M.Taylor
