On Monday 10th July Sussex Cricket Foundation invited all of the Sporting Memories Clubs to day one of the County Championship match against Derbyshire at The 1st Central County Ground.
Around 50 volunteers and members attended and had a wonderful time chatting with people from other clubs while watching Sussex bat in the glorious sunshine.
A tour of the Sussex Cricket museum was also provided, which everyone enjoyed. There has been so much positive feedback from those who attended SCF plan to make this an annual event going forward!
A Worthing Sporting Memories Member said: "Monday was my FIRST experience of Live County Championship cricket at Hove, and it was certainly not going to be my last.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. From the Stewards at the front gate to the service staff at Cow Corner, the experience was so good.
"I genuinely didn’t want to go home at the end of the first day’s play. Thank you to all concerned at Hove and Sporting memories for a wonderful experience. Will definitely return at some point in the future."
A Brighton Sporting Memories Member added: “Another sporting memory is made - lovely venue, lovely people, first class cricket in play, free entry, coffee & snacks - what more could one ask for?!”
Sporting Memories Clubs are open to anyone over the age of 50 who loves to reminisce about either playing or watching sport.
They are free to attend and take place weekly in Brighton, Hove, Worthing and Polegate and on the 1st Monday of each month in Crowborough.
There is also a virtual Sussex Sporting Memories club on Zoom each week. There are plans to launch a NEW club in Chichester later this year.
