Salt signs new contract

Phil Salt will remain at Sussex until at least the end of the 2019 season after signing a new two-year contract.

The 21-year-old Sussex Academy graduate made his maiden first-class half century in 2017, scoring 72 during the Specsavers County Championship win against Durham in September.

Phil has made seven first class appearances and featured in 18 limited overs matches for Sussex since making his first team debut as an 18-year-old in August 2015.

An exciting strokemaker with the ability to turn matches, Phil’s top score in one-day cricket came when he made 81 off 76 balls in a win over Middlesex during the 2016 One-Day Cup. 

His eleven games in T20 cricket have brought him an average of 22.4 and a strike rate of 125.2.

Born in North Wales, Phil spent part of his childhood in Barbados where he played alongside Sussex teammate Jofra Archer. Phil spent two years in the Sussex Academy before signing a junior professional contract at the end of 2015 and his first full deal a year later. 

Reacting to committing his future to Sussex, Phil said: “I’m thrilled to sign and be a part of a young Sussex squad who can work towards winning silverware in the future”.
