Round up for the week ending 5th November

In the first of our weekly looks at how our players have been getting on during their winter travels, we pay a visit to Australia and Bangladesh. 

Delray Rawlins is playing as an overseas player for Sydney CC in New South Wales Premier cricket. On Saturday, they played the second day of their two-day Belvidere Cup match against Western Suburbs (Delray made 37 batting at number five in Sydney’s innings a week earlier). Rain meant that only 59 overs were available for Western Suburbs’ innings, time-enough however for Delray to bowl four parsimonious overs during which he conceded just 12 runs.  The match was ultimately drawn with Western Suburbs making 232-3 in response to Sydney’s 273.

On Sunday, Delray made his debut in the Poidevin-Gray Shield, an under-21s competition made up of a mixture of T20 and 50 over matches, as Sydney played two T20 matches against Randwick Petersham. Because of the inclement weather, the first match was reduced to 10 overs a side. Delray starred with the bat making 45 off just 19 balls from number three as Sydney chased down 90 with seven balls to spare. Delray demonstrated his versatility in the second match of the day, bowling an exceptionally tight four overs that went for just nine runs and included a wicket. This helped Sydney complete a 64 run victory as the Randy Petes were dismissed for 82. Delray made 12 from eight deliveries in Sydney’s innings. 

The Bangladesh Premier League got underway this weekend, with two of our boys in action. Luke Wright opened for the Rajshahi Kings who batted first against the Rangpur Riders in Sylhet on Saturday. He made 11 as the Kings posted 154-8 in their overs. The Riders were able to chase this down in 18.5 overs for the loss of four wickets. Luke took a superb catch at backward point to get rid of Mohammad Mithun off the bowling of Kesrick Williams.

Jofra Archer was one of the more economical Khulna Titans bowlers as they lost to Dhaka Dynamites by 65 runs. The Dynamites put on 202-7 at 10.10 runs per over, but Jofra’s four overs cost a relatively meagre 34 and included the wicket of big-hitting West Indian, Kieron Pollard. After losing early wickets, the Titans were never really in the hunt during their chase, but Jofra demonstrated his prowess with the bat once more as he top-scored with 36 off 24 balls.
