Sussex Women began their Women's London Championship game with a 35-run victory over Kent Women at Sutton Vallence on Saturday 1st July.
Having won the toss and put Sussex into bat, Kent were unable to prevent Sussex from putting on a total of 222 runs for 5 wickets from their 50 overs.
Openers Phoebe Wilkinson and Lucy Western built the platform for the visitors, Wilkinson making 47 from 67 and Western making 77 from 115. There was also valuable contributions from both Millie Taylor (29) and captain Emily Spooner (41*).
In response, Kent's top-order failed to have the same impact as their opponents openers, however their middle order did offer some resistance.
Kent's Genevieve Jeer made 32 from 58 before being caught and bowled by Italian international Regina Suddahazai. Wicket-keeper batter Emily Barrett top-scored for Kent with an impressive 74 from 91 deliveries, however it wasn't enough for the hosts to successfully chase Sussex down.
Emily Spooner was the pick of the Sussex attack, taking 3 wickets for 38 runs from her 8.5 overs, with Millie Taylor also picking up 2-28 from 10 overs.
