Sussex's Championship & One-Day Head Coach, Ian Salisbury will work as the Netherlands' specialist spin bowling coach during the forthcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman.
On appointing Ian to work with him at the tournament, Netherlands Head Coach, Ryan Campbell said: "As the coach of the Netherlands I’ve always tried to surround the players with quality people. Ian Salisbury is one of those quality people & an outstanding coach. His knowledge of spin bowling will be a massive aid in the UAE and he joins fast bowling coach Chris Liddle, senior assistant James Hilditch & physio Evan Speechly in our quality back room staff."
Royal Netherlands Cricket Association High Performance Manager, Roland Lefebvre added: "The KNCB is extremely pleased to have Ian Salisbury joining our coaching staff for the T20 World Cup in Dubai.
Ian has an incredible amount of experience, both as a coach, county and International England cricketer. Ian’s spin bowling background in particular will help our spinners. We have seen from previous tournaments what an important role spin can play in the Emirates. We would like to thank Sussex Cricket for their support and allowing Ian the time off to join our team and wish players and staff all the best for the World Cup."
Ian himself said: "This is a really good squad including some very talented spinners. They’re brilliantly led by Pieter Seelar and Ryan Campbell and it’s a privilege to have been invited to join the coaching staff. The team has a chance to create a bit of Dutch sporting history, of which there is so much. From a personal point of view, an experience like this will be great for my development as a coach. I learned a lot from working with the England Women at World Cups and I am sure working at this forthcoming tournament will be just as beneficial.”
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup runs from Sunday 17th October to Sunday 14th November. The tournament starts with a preliminary round featuring eight teams, including the Netherlands. They are in Group A alongside Ireland, Namibia and Sri Lanka.
