The Hundred to feature equal prize money for men’s and women’s winning teams

4 Mar 2020

The winners of the inaugural The Hundred women's final at The 1st Central County Ground, Hove on Friday 14th August will be awarded the same prize money as the victors in the men's final at Lord's the following day.

It was announced on Wednesday that the total prize budget of £600,000 will be split 50/50 between the men’s and women’s competitions as a step towards the ECB’s long-term commitment to making cricket a gender-balanced sport.

The Hundred is an action-packed, unmissable new 100 ball cricket competition that will put you on the edge of your seat. Featuring world-class players and homegrown talent, the eight brand new city-based women's and men's teams will compete over five weeks each year (17 July – 15 Aug 2020), with both competitions running side-by-side.

Beth Barrett-Wild, head of The Hundred women's competition said: “We’re really proud of our movement towards making cricket a gender-balanced sport and whilst we’re aware there is more to do in this space, this is an important step in the right direction. It’s recognition for the women’s players and the huge value they bring to The Hundred.

“The ECB is committed to transforming women’s and girls’ cricket, from inspiring young girls to pick up a bat for the first time, through to establishing the women’s game as a professional career option. This announcement today represents one signal of intent towards that commitment.”

In December, The 1st Central County Ground was announced as the host venue for the final of the women's tournament following its highly succcesful staging of three Kia Super League Finals Day and its track record of attracting big crowds to England's international fixtures at the ground in recent years.

Alongside The Hundred final, The 1st Central County Ground is also Southern Brave's home for two group games earlier in the competition.

Further cementing its position as the home of women's cricket, the ground will also host two England internationals this summer. India are the opposition for a Royal London one-day international on Thursday 9th July, while South Africa visit for a Vitality IT20 on Tuesday 1st September.

A special priority window for tickets to standalone women’s matches in The Hundred - including the final and Southern Brave fixtures at The 1st Central County Ground - will be available from Monday 9th to Monday 16th March. For more information on The Hundred and to sign up for these priority tickets, visit www.thehundred.com.

Tickets for the two England international fixtures at The 1st Central County Ground will go on general sale via the Sussex Cricket ticketing site at 10am on Monday 9th March.
