Hove MP Peter Kyle shares experience on Sussex Cricket's Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub

12 Apr 2021

Peter Kyle, the Member of Parliament for Hove, is the latest person to share his experiences on Sussex Cricket's groundbreaking Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub.

Peter joins hundreds of other people from all walks of life who have contributed to the free, online resource that is designed to help anyone that needs to find hope and support through the power of shared experiences.

In his videos for the platform, Peter discusses how the Sussex Cricket Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub is making a real difference, "it's a really fantastic opportunity to talk about health, wellbeing and in particularly mental health, which is a really difficult thing to talk about normally.

"Because of the special relationship people have by supporting a sports club and sport being so much about health and wellbeing, that relationship is much more open to talking about things in a much different way.

"It's a brilliant opportunity for people to consider their mental health and to talk about wellbeing in a very different way. It's fantastic that Sussex Cricket in leading in this really pioneering way."

Peter goes on to say, "Normally supporters support the club. To know that the club is supporting you as well is a really remarkable relationship and one people really shouldn't miss out on."

He also talks about the pressures of being a politician, how he deals with them, what the most rewarding aspects of his job are and offers his own message for people who are concerned about their mental wellbeing.

Sussex Cricket became the first professional sports club in the world with its own, bespoke online mental health and wellbeing platform when the hub was launched with the help of World Cup winner, Sarah Taylor, in January.

Completely free to use and totally anonymous with no registration required, the mobile-optimised platform has been created with the support and approval of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and developed in partnership with Frog Systems.

At the heart of the hub is the ‘Champions Cinema’, an ever-growing collection of thousands of videos of 60 seconds or less where people from the Sussex Cricket community and beyond share their experiences relating to an A to Z of topics that impact or can help with our mental health and wellbeing.

Contributors include Sussex Cricket players and staff, club cricketers, experts from Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as well as individuals from a whole host of backgrounds and life experience.

The fully searchable library also provides links to trusted local resources and further help relevant to the videos you view.
