Rain meant that Sussex were only able to play one of their two Vitality Women’s County T20 matches at the Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy on Sunday.
After their morning fixture against Kent was washed out, the team suffered a 57-run defeat to Surrey in the afternoon.
Georgia Adams won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Wickets for England duo Freya Davies and Georgia Elwiss left Surrey 47 for 2, but a 55-run third-wicket partnership between Kirstie White and Amy Gordon and a late flurry from White – who finished unbeaten on 74 - and Hannah Jones took Surrey to 144 for 4 from their 20 overs.
Tara Norris was the other Sussex bowler to strike, finishing with two for 28 from her four overs.
Sussex kept themselves in the hunt by reaching 46 for 2, but then lost their remaining eight wickets for 41 runs.
Elwiss was the side’s top-scorer with 38 from 45 balls at the top of the order.

Sussex travel to Collingham & District CC next Sunday for the penultimate round of matches against Nottinghamshire and Wales.
