Club statement: social media boycott

28 Apr 2021

Sussex Cricket will take part in and fully supports cricket's social media boycott that will take place from 3pm BST on Friday 30th April until 11:59pm on Monday 3rd May.

All 18 first-class counties, the eight regional women's teams, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) will all participate in the boycott as cricket stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the football community in making clear that nobody should have to suffer abuse, racism or harassment on social media.

Social media plays an important role in connecting supporters with clubs and players, but more must be done to end the appalling abuse that is seen all too often via this medium.

During the boycott, Sussex Cricket's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts will not be used. Supporters looking to follow Sussex men's LV= Insurance County Championship match will be able to do so via the club's online Match Centre. Those wanting to follow Sussex women's Vitality Women's County T20 matches against Hampshire will be able to do so via the Sussex Women Play Cricket page.
