Ahead of our 2006 C&G Trophy final #ReSwim, read what Sussex captain, Chris Adams wrote in the matchday programme on that day 14 years ago...
"In my nine years as Sussex captain, there have been some fantastic occasion, not least winning our first ever Championship in 2003.
But to be able to lead my side through the Long room and out onto Lord's today will be one of the proudest moments of my career - right up there with playing for my country and our Championship success.
We have been developing as a one-day team for three or four years now and, when we sat down at the start of the season to assess our goals, getting to a Lord's final for the first time since 1993 was a big goal for us.
Easier said than done, of course, but we were fortunate to get some momentum into our C&G qualifying group straight away and once you get a few wins under your belt, and gain confidence, it becomes a lot easier to produce the skills on a consistent basis which make a successful one-day side.
Not too many of our players have experience of a Lord's final. I was fortunate enough to win here with Derbyshire in 1993, ironically against today's opponents, and Richard Montgomerie played in two finals for Northamptonshire but was on the losing side on both occasions.
So I suppose there is a danger that we might struggle to come to terms with the big occasion and the atmosphere that a full-house crowd will generate. But I don't think we will.
We have a good record in recent years of winning the tight games and the experience of players like Mushtaq Ahmed, James Kirtley and Murray Goodwin is going to be important.
The younger players in the side have been thinking about little else for a few weeks now. Guys like Mike Yardy, Carl Hopkinson, Luke Wright and Matt Prior have produced under pressure before and I see no reason why they can't do it again. They will certainly relish the occasion.
Most people will probably make Lancashire favourites which is fair enough. They have the pedigree and the personnel and I have nothing but admiration for Mike Watkinson, Mark Chilton and their side.
They play the game hard - but fair.
We have had some great tussles with them in recent years and, with due respect to the other counties, we have been the two most consistent teams this summer which all adds to the sense of occasion today.
As well as a Sussex win, of course, my main hope is that the two teams produce a spectacle befitting the occasion.
I have a feeling we are going to see a special game today, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we plan to."
