Sussex played two matches in the Women’s T20 competition at Billingshurst CC on Sunday, losing one and winning the other.
In their first match of the day, they bowled Kent out for 69 in 19 overs, but were then dismissed themselves for 61 in 18.5 overs.
Cassidy McCarthy starred with the ball, taking 3-10 from three overs. Chiara Green was miserly in taking 2-8 from four overs and Tara Norris also bagged a brace, finishing with 2-17 from her allocation.
Linsey Smith and Paige Scholfield took one wicket each.
Sussex lost regular wickets during the reply, with only Green making it to double figures. She was unbeaten on 20 as the side fell nine runs short of victory.
In a rain affected second match, Surrey made 74-3 from 11 overs. Sussex were set a revised target of 92 from eleven overs, which they reached for the loss of just three wickets.
Surrey got off to a strong start, putting on 46 for the first wicket before Green removed Kirstie White (28) leg before in the seventh over.
Green, who finished with 3-19, struck twice more with the score on 73 before the rain cut short Surrey’s innings.
Needing 8.4 runs per over for victory, Georgia Adams (17 off 13 balls) and Scholfield (28 off 20 balls) set the tone with a quickfire opening partnership of 36.
After those two were dismissed, Izzy Collis (23* off 17 balls), Abi Freeborn (13 off nine balls) and then Linsey Smith (7 off two balls) saw Sussex to victory with five balls to spare.
After four matches, Sussex sit in fourth position with eight points, four behind Middlesex who have a 100% record.
Sussex are in action again this Sunday when they travel to Birmingham to play Warwickshire (10.30am) and Lancashire (1.30pm).
