Sussex succumbed to a 51-run defeat in their penultimate match of the Royal London Women’s One-Day Championship season against Yorkshire at Harrogate CC on Bank Holiday Monday.
After winning the toss, the visitors’ bowlers performed well to restrict Yorkshire to 190 for 9 from their 50 overs.
Yorkshire made a decent start and reached 77 for one, before the introduction of spinner Chiara prompted something of a collapse.
Green dismissed both openers as well as former teammate Abbey Freeborn on her way to 3 from 39 from her ten overs.
Freya Davies took two wickets as she conceded just 20 balls from her nine overs, and there was one wicket each Tara Norris and Nancy Harman.
Sussex’s reply got off to a difficult start as Izzy Collis and Sarah Taylor fell early. Skipper Georgia Adams and Danni Wyatt combined to add 61 for the third wicket, but Adams’ dismissal with the score on 82 was followed one run later by the wicket of the sides’ leading run-scorer Carla Rudd.
Ella McCaughan, Davies and Linsey Smith all got starts but wickets fell at regular intervals and Sussex were dismissed for 139 in 45 overs.
With one match to play, Sussex are fifth place with 67 points, 13 points clear of the relegation zone and 13 points off second place. Kent have been crowned County Champions after their win against Lancashire on Monday.
