Sussex Cricket is delighted to welcome back Carla Rudd to the Sussex Women’s squad following a move from Berkshire.
The Hastings-born wicketkeeper joined Berkshire in 2011, having made her way through Sussex’s age-group sides. She was a member of both the England Women’s Development Programme and England Women’s Academy.
Carla has also been part of the Southern Vipers squad since the inception of the Kia Super League and was in the team that won the inaugural title in 2016.
The 25-year-old combines her playing career with her role as girls’ cricket coach at Felsted School in Essex.
Commenting on her homecoming, Carla said: “I am excited to go back and play where it all started for me. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play alongside old teammates at Sussex.”
Sussex Women’s head coach, Alexia Walker added: “We are delighted that Carla has requested to re-join Sussex this year.
“Having been loaned out as a 17-year-old to develop her wicketkeeping when Sarah Taylor was in regular possession of the gloves for Sussex, we have followed her career from afar with great pride.
“Carla has demonstrated her skills as one of the top keepers in the country, representing the England Academy and more recently being the first-choice keeper for the highly successful Southern Vipers in the Kia Super League.
“As we move towards a new era for domestic cricket for women and girls we are ensuring we have the best squad possible alongside our already superb facilities at the Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre and the robust infrastructure provided by the support of the Aldridge Foundation.
“We are all looking forward to having Carla back in a Sussex shirt as we push for more success on the field this season and in the years to come.”
