Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce that our state school partner, the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA), have made it into the Top 100 Cricket School's for the fourth year running.
The UK’s best schools for cricket have been revealed in The Cricketer’s Schools Guide 2023. This year’s guide features the top 100 senior, top 50 prep/junior and top 20 all-girls schools for cricket in a bumper 156-page supplement.
2023’s successful roll call of schools – which features both state-funded and private establishments – was finalised after an exhaustive selection process that saw a huge number submit entries for inclusion in the guide.
All entries were then judged against an extensive set of criteria, which included a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.
Within a decade, BACA has become one of the leading state schools for cricket provision in the country and this award reinforces the hard work and dedication towards building the outstanding cricket programme. BACA Principal, Jack Davies is delighted with the news:
"I’m honoured to be leading BACA, for me the goal is to be the best comprehensive school in the country for cricket. We have outstanding facilities, exceptional staff and students who strive to excel in all that they do. A big season ahead, and I would welcome any visitors to our academy and cricket centre."
The close links with Sussex Cricket and the Southern Vipers makes BACA a superb venue to train at all year round alongside academic studies.
The BACA Cricket programme is leading the way in how state schools can champion the wonderful sport of cricket.
Southern Vipers Captain and the Lead Coach for the BACA sixth form programme, Georgia Adams, spoke about the news:
“The programme at BACA along with the world class facilities is just superb. Being able to train here helps my performance as a professional cricketer and I thoroughly enjoy my time working with the talented cricket students who demonstrate such high standards in everything they do.”
Former Sussex and England cricketer, James Kirtley, is now the fast bowling coach at Sussex Cricket and works closely with current student and Sussex Academy player, Frankie.
James was delighted to hear the news about the Top 100 Schools announcement:
"Sussex Cricket are very proud to be in partnership with BACA to help provide excellent opportunities for talented state school students to progress to the highest level. The programme is making a real difference to the development of players through the pathway and hopefully into professional careers."
