Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce that Alfie Pyle has been selected for the England Learning Disability (LD) Squad.
Alfie bats at number three for the Sussex D40 team and made history last year when he scored 162 runs against Surrey D40 at The 1st Central County Ground.
That was the first ever disability fixture to be played at a first-class cricket ground and Alfie’s runs did not go unnoticed.
Initially Alfie was invited to play in the 2022 Disability Premier League (DPL) which is the ECB's elite-level Disability competition featuring a mixture of players from three different impairment groups: physical disability, learning disability, and deaf.
The league comprises four teams made up of the best domestic and international players from each impairment group which compete in a T20 competition.
Alfie was then invited to attend training camps with the England LD squad during the winter and after a successful trial in March, Alfie was told the news that he made it into the squad.
We caught up with Alfie at the Sussex Cricket Media Day last week, watch and listen to what he had to say about the special call up.
Don't miss out on another historical day
The Sussex D40 team will return to The 1st Central County Ground once again when they take on Middlesex on Sunday 18th June 2023. Tickets are free of charge and can be reserved here.
