Last month The 1st Central County Ground played host to the Sussex Cricket Foundation's U9/10s Softball Finals Day, giving local boys and girls the opportunity to play cricket at a first-class venue.
The competition started with 50 teams from across the County, split up into four regional qualifiers throughout Sussex, with 175 games played in the tournament in total.
Three clubs from each regional qualifier had the opportunity to compete for the title at Finals Day and it was the team from Ifield Cricket Club that eventually took the crown.
The mixed-gender competition was designed to give opportunities to all people from around the County, with only one pathway player permitted to play in each team, helping to keep the tournament fun and inclusive.
Matt Parsons, SCF Territory Manager said: “The aim of the competition, which we’ve run for several years now, is to provide a structured, fun and engaging opportunity for boys and girls who have started their cricketing experience through All-Stars and Dynamo’s.
"Matches are aimed at those young players who aren’t necessarily addicted to cricket yet, nor is it aimed at those players who have already had some exposure to what’s traditionally been seen as the cricket journey.
"The U9/10 Softball Cup blends an experience to play matches, with a developmental focus on just having fun and giving it a go, with an opportunity to meet new clubs and play at The 1st Central County Ground.
"With over 50 entries in 2023 and over 175 games played, it continues to show that a passion for the game is growing, county-wide."
