Sussex bounced back from their difficult start to the Vitality Women’s County T20 with wins over Wales and Nottinghamshire at Collingham CC on Sunday.
In the first match of the day, a team containing debutants Freya Davies and Hollie Young beat Wales by 12 runs.
After winning the toss, Sussex batted first and reached 124 for 3 from their 20 overs. Opener, Georgia Elwiss played a sublime innings, contributing an unbeaten 80 from 63 balls to the total.
Elwiss was the star with the ball as well, taking 4 for 16 from her four overs to help reduce Wales to 44 for 6.
A 54-run partnership for the seventh wicket raised the tension, before Freya Davies took the vital wicket of top-scorer Danielle Gibson via the hands of Ella McCaughan.
That halted Wales’ momentum and they ended on 112 for 7. Tara Norris was Sussex’s other wicket-taker, with 2 for 21 from her allocation.

Against Nottinghamshire, Sussex once again won the toss and elected to bat. A 49-run opening partnership between Elwiss and captain Georgia Adams (36 off 32 balls) got the team off to a solid start.
Elwiss later combined with Carla Rudd to add 38 for the third wicket, before a brisk cameo from McCaughan lifted Sussex to 118 for 5.
Davies and Norris combined to take two wickets with the new ball, leaving Notts in early difficulty at 7 for 2. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Elwiss, Chiara Green, Cassidy McCarthy and Kemp taking one each, while Young took 2 for 8 from two overs.
