Winter Watch | Week 10

26 Jan 2026

Where did all the time go? Into the final week of January as the sights and sounds of cricket start to appear on the horizon as we near the completion of our Winter Watch series. And there's some big updates, too, for three Sussex players featured in a final yesterday. One proved victorious on the day as we provide another comprehensive review of your Sharks abroad...

Jofra Archer

After an impressive Ashes Series it's onto the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka for Archer and his England side, with the first game scheduled for 9.30am GMT on Sunday, 8th February when they face Nepal.

Anna Buckle

It's been a pretty hefty break for Buckle over in Australia, having not played since 21 December. But, with the hiatus complete and the cricket returning, so too has her form with the ball as she picked up two wickets in what turned out to be defeat for her UTS North Sydney.

James Coles

Yeah, pretty good! An instant impact for Sunrisers Eastern Cape after a delayed debut for the SA20 side, but they'll be pleased to have eventually picked him after an explosive five innings at the crease. 152 runs were scored at a strike rate of 170.79 - including a few match winning knocks to get his side to the Final.

And with the ball he was tidy, too. Five wickets were taken at an average of 20, and at an economy rate of 7.33. He may have only played half of the matches but his effectiveness was evident, and his quality eminent. Yesterday's Final against Pretoria Capitals was ironically perhaps his weakest performance in the tournament, but his side recovered with the bat to seal an incredible title following an excellent competition in South Africa.

Brad Currie

With yesterday's news regarding Brad Currie's call-up to the Scotland national side for the upcoming T20 World Cup, our Winter Watch series extends deeper into the colder months with Currie set to fly out on Wednesday morning.

Scotland's opening match of the tournament will be on the opening day, Saturday, 7th February at 9.30am GMT, as they play West Indies in Group C's curtain raiser. Also in their group is England, Italy and Nepal.

Charlie Tear is a non-travelling reserve so, if he is to be called-up, we will update further on the young wicket-keeper batter in due course.

Daniel Hughes

As the curtain dropped on the BBL yesterday, Hughes had perhaps played more of a role than initially thought after opening with Babar Azam at the start of the tournament. As Steve Smith returned from Ashes duty he replaced Hughes at the top of the order, but when Azam left the tournament early it opened to the door for Hughes to return as his side motored towards the final.

In the end they came up short against Perth Scorchers, defeated by six wickets. Yet a campaign to be proud of, and for Hughes the opportunity to play in one of the biggest stages in cricket. He'll be back at Hove soon for the start of the County Championship.

Danial Ibrahim

Not so much in the runs this week, but a couple of wickets for Ibrahim proved pivotal as his Central Hawkes Bay side completed a five-wicket victory over Napier Old Boys in a T20 at the weekend.

He'll next be in action this Saturday, taking on George Thomas' Cornwall in a One Day Cup affair.

Tymal Mills

His side on the losing end of Sunday's SA20 final versus James Coles' Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Mills did not feature in yesterday's finale but did play an important role in plenty of the group stage matches.

George Thomas

More runs for Thomas, and a real pace, too. 55 runs from just 28 deliveries fired Cornwall to a 19-run win over Taradale - this just one of many superior innings with the bat over the course of his winter in New Zealand.
