Sussex suffered defeats to Middlesex and Hampshire in their opening two matches of this year’s Vitality Women’s County T20 at Mill Hill School on Sunday.
In the first match, Sussex won the toss and elected to field. Middlesex made 115 for 5 in their 20 overs. There were wickets for Chiara Green, Nancy Harman, Linsey Smith and Tara Norris, as well as a run out for Georgia Adams.
Smith and Harman were particularly economical, conceding just nine and ten runs respectively from their three overs each.
In reply, Sussex were on course for victory after reaching 96 for 3 thanks to a half-century from Georgia Elwiss. Her run out, however, prompted a collapse and Sussex ended up six runs short of their target with nine wickets lost.

The team’s second match of the day began with Hampshire winning the toss and electing to bat first. They made 115 for 9, with Freya Davies taking 3 for 23 and Smith proving tidy again as she picked up 2 for 13.
There was one wicket each for Elwiss, Green and Norris, who also executed a run out.
Sussex’s chase was defined by the loss of six wickets for two runs as the side went from 24 without loss to 26 for 6.
A 51-run partnership between Carla Rudd (26) and Norris (33) gave Sussex some hope, but they were ultimately bowled out for 94, 22 runs short of their target.
