Injury news
Jack Carson, Jofra Archer, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Dan Ibrahim and Steve Finn all remain sidelined as they continue their rehabilitation programmes.
George Garton is rested after returning for the first time this year against Middlesex last week.
Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan will be unavailable due to a family bereavement; the club would like to send our best wishes to Riz and his family at this difficult time.
Mason Crane
Crane has now returned to Hampshire and Sussex would like to place on record our gratitude to Mason for his efforts over the past two weeks, as well as to Hampshire for loaning him to us at a time when we had a number of key injuries to our bowling attack.
Salisbury's comments
“We are definitely getting closer, each games feels as though we are making step forwards, but we need to take that final step and get over the line. We set the last two games up to win, and we need to do that again tomorrow.
“Everyone at Sussex sends their best wishes to Riz, who will be unavailable due to a family bereavement. At this point we didn’t feel we needed to risk Finn just yet, as we have other fit seamers in the team and we want to make sure he is fully recovered as the T20s get closer.
“George will be rested, we are obviously being careful after he suffered the effects of long Covid.
“It’s good to be able to select Archie again after his stress-fracture over the winter. We have been managing and increasing his workload to get him to this point, so it’s nice to be able to bring him back.”
Our opponents
Leicestershire currently sit one place below us in the division 2 table, having drawn two and lost three of their opening five County Championship fixtures.
Although they went down to Glamorgan last week, the Foxes will be motivated to pick up their first win of the season.
Batsman Rishi Patel found his feet last week making a career best 82, but maybe the best performance of the season for the hosts came from seam bowler Ben Mike, who took 4-15 with the ball against Middlesex, before following up with a career-best 99 runs with the bat in the next innings.
