Sussex finished their Royal London Women’s One-Day Championship with a resounding 160-run win over newly-crowned Champions Kent at The Spitfire Ground, Canterbury on Sunday.
After winning the toss and batting, Sussex got off to superb start through openers Georgia Adams and Izzy Collis.
Adams had raced to 65 from 62 balls when she was the first batter to fall with the score on 118.
Collis followed 37 runs later for 67, but contributions throughout the middle order, led by a 45-ball 53 for season’s debutant Georgia Elwiss, saw Sussex to 268 for 6 from their 50 overs.
Elwiss’ prowess in the field gave Sussex their first wicket, as Kent opener Lottie Bryan was run out with the score on seventeen.
Seamers Tara Norris and Cassidy McCarthy then reduced the hosts to 38 for 5 with two wickets each.
The spinners – led by Chiara Green who finished with 2 for 6 – then finished the job with Kent all out for 108 inside the 32nd over.
Sussex take 18 points from the match meaning that they finish third in their first season back in division one.
