To coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the birth of HRH Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on June 10 2021, Sussex Cricket Museum and Educational Trust has published its latest booklet, Prince Philip, Cricket’s Royal Duke edited by Jon Filby, Nicholas Sharp and Roger Packham.
The booklet contains contributions from Sir John Major, Ted Dexter, Robin Marlar and Colin Maynard and reveals the Duke’s passion for cricket, his skill as an off-break bowler and, above all, his deep understanding of the ability of cricket to make a positive impact on lives and communities around the world.
Alongside wonderful imagery, Colin Maynard tells the stories of Royal visits to Lord’s, Ted Dexter recalls the many times that through cricket and golf he met The Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family and Robin Marlar describes the two great matches played at Arundel in the 1950s between the Duke of Edinburgh’s team and the Duke of Norfolk’s team, together with a fascinating number of related anecdotes and insights into the life of one of our country’s most extraordinary men.
All profits from the sale of this booklet will go to the running of the Sussex Cricket Museum.
Copies are available from jon.filby@sussexcricket.co.uk at £14 each including postage or can be delivered in the Brighton and Hove area at £12 each.
