Sharks squad for trip to Taunton

Head Coach James Kirtley has named a 15-man squad as the Sharks look to build momentum against Somerset tomorrow, following victory against Kent on Sunday.

Mohammad Rizwan has now returned to Pakistan ahead of their three match ODI series against the West Indies, which starts on Wednesday 8th June.

New signing Obed McCoy is available for selection following the completion of the Indian Premier League and has joined up with the team ahead of the trip to Taunton.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice also joins the squad to provide additional cover in a batting capacity.

On Sunday the Sharks beat defending T20 Blast champions Kent at The 1st Central County Ground thanks to a scintillating 65 not-out and man of the match performance from Tom Alsop.

Tom was backed up superbly at the other end by George Garton, who ran hard between the stumps to ensure Alsop had maximum opportunities to find boundaries towards the end of the innings.

The Sussex bowlers and fielders worked hard to ensure the reigning champions didn’t chase down the 172 runs set by the hosts.

Speaking on his performance, Tom Alsop said: “I guess it was best from fresh, I was chuffed to be playing. T20 is the kind of game where you want to go out and play with freedom, which is what I tried to do.

“A lot of my batting is about rhythm, and I felt good out there. The boys bowled beautifully up top and did their job. The guys are still really confident, there is a lot of people who are experienced in our squad, so nobody panicked, relaxed and just played with freedom.”
