Sussex Cricket is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rottingdean Cricket Club Member and volunteer, Sarah Hunt. Those who knew Sarah, spoke about her commitment to cricket in the County.
“Sarah Hunt has been a member of Rottingdean Cricket Club for 38 years. During this time, she has done every job that no-one else wanted to do. From Chair to stocking the bar and recycling. She has been the Swiss army knife of volunteers and will be missed beyond measure.”
Dorian Ledden (Rottingdean Cricket Club)
“Sussex Cricket Foundation recognised Sarah’s formidable work at Rottingdean CC in 2018 by naming her as the county wide winner of the “Heartbeat of the Club” Award in the Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards (OSCAs).
Sarah was passionate about advocating policies that were inclusive and helped the game. In addition to her many roles at Rottingdean CC, she was Hon. Secretary of the Brighton and Hove Area Cricket Hub.
This aims to support the growth of Club Cricket in the City through developing the Brighton Urban Plan. In recent years I worked with Sarah closely and admired how much she gave to others.
Sarah had the ability to see the strategic picture and perform various administration duties and will be greatly missed.”
Jim May (Vice President, Sussex Cricket)
Sussex Cricket, Rottingdean CC and the wider game in general have lost a true cricketing superstar.
Not only a committed, passionate, and caring volunteer, but a friendly, warm, and engaging personality, who took pride in seeing others around her enjoy and love the game, just as much as she did.
Sarah took pride in helping others engage in the game and wanted to not just talk about doing things but push everyone around her to make them happen. She was an important and valued member of the Sussex Cricket family and a personal friend, who will be sorely missed.
